A little love and elbow grease go a long way.
I finally love my house.
Well, the living and dining rooms.
We spent the last 2 weekends painting. We painted the living room, dining room, hallway and 2 pieces of furniture. We still have a lot more painting to do, but I finally feel like we are on our way to making this place home. MY kinda home. Warm and cozy and pretty and awesome.
This is where we started. Great bones. Bland and not me at all. Smelled like old house and was filthy.
And this is what it looks like now.
Living room:
Dining room: (Ignore the institutional blue kitchen. It will be oatmeal after this weekend.)
We also painted the electric red hallway a bright sunny yellow that I hate. It will be washed over with a vanilla glaze to tone it down this weekend. We’ll also be doing a nice light olive green in the bedroom.
I just can’t wait till it’s all done and we are good and settled in. We got a new fridge yesterday and had a few odds and ends fixed. All and all, I’m really happy here. I love the area, the size, the character and best of all, we got a smokin’ deal.
I also went to Lake Charles this weekend for my future sister-in-law’s bridal shower. Got lost and mighty pissed off and missed half of it, but we made her cry with the poem I wrote and that made it worth while.
Reality TV update:
Brett’s hair is so bad. Really, dude. You’d be so hot bald and without the makeup. Destiny’s parents seemed like such sweet people. Too bad their baby girl is a trampalicious ho. It was nice that they dedicated the show to her dad, though. Daisy still looks like a damn monkey.
Dancing with the Stars: Marissa gets on my nerves. I wanted to be all “Fat girl sisterhood!” and love her but I just can’t. I want her to shut up before she even starts talking. Best Kerry Anne comment ever: (said to Priscilla Presley) “Your face never moves when you dance.” Well, duh, Kerry Anne! That’s because it can’t move.
Idol: They all sucked except David Archuleta. He sang one of my all time favorite songs ever- Angels – Originally done by Robbie Williams and remade by Jessica Simpson. He nailed it and it was superawesomefantastic. Simon lost major cool points for not knowing it actually was a hit in the US- it was, just not a huge one. Fail on you, Simon.
The Bachelor: I might have to stop watching because he kept the ghetto black chick over Holly. I mean, she’s pretty, but chick is not refined enough to be with him. Proof when she gets all crazy-like in he previews. She belongs on Flava of Love. The one I like, surprisingly, is Shane. I dig her a lot. And her shoes.
That’s all for now. I’m tired.
Oh and my blog has been retarded and not emailing people when I post but hopefully Mikey fixed that.
Ciao for now.

My back is still hurting from all this painting, and we have a lot more to go. Poor back.
It does look good, though. People need to come by and see it.
This looks amazing. And huge. When I don’t get this job I’m up for and I have to move back to Houston, I’ll be crashing in that living room of yours.
Okay, I’ll say it publicly now… your house looks AWESOME so far. You did such a great job. It looks so much more like ‘you’ now. I can’t wait to visit and sleep in my new bedroom. :p
Everything you’ve done so far is fabulous. Your hard work paid off. (yes, yours too, Mike).
My favorite Ali line of the whole decorating process: “It’s not about what you like, Mike, it’s about design!” :p
I’m so glad that Savannah had such a good time. That poem was great.
You know I don’t watch Rock of Love, but I did watch some of last week. I still can’t get over that craptastic Paves job they did on his head. Seriously… I tuned in just for that. I stayed for the Ambre mess. It was pretty comical.
DWTS made me a little bit sad tonight, but I know why it happened. It was inevitable. But yeah, Marissa bugs the crap out of me. I expected to like her, but I don’t. I didn’t expect to like Marlee Matlin, but I really do. Carrie Ann’s comment last night to Priscilla was priceless, though.
Idol was… odd for me. I liked things the first time around that I didn’t like so much the second time I ran through it. Syesha sounded like she was screaming through the whole song. WRTF was David Cook thinking (although his cockiness is growing on me). I didn’t really ‘buy’ Michael Johns conviction. Brooke sounded too loungy. Jason is just a weird dude and that song was all over the place. David A. was the best, by far. I totally agree with you. Did you see Lacey over Simon’s shoulder? Can’t wait for tomorrow night!!
Also, I squealed when they promo’d So You Think You Can Dance for next month.

Okay, this is bordering on a blog of it’s own. I’m out. But I did get an email, so good job, Mikey!
<3
wow… you are AMAZING! I was going to say that your house looks amazing, but it’s not just that… it’s you who’s amazing, because you came up with all of this! You styled it and it looks phenomenal! You know, some people live 10 years in their house and they still can’t make it look “homey”, and you did it in a couple of days… Way to go! And kudos to Mikey!
PS. Now you should make a video and give us a tour!
Can you come decorate my house neighbor?!?!
I love how cozy and warm it looks! It looks beautiful and you have done an amazing job so far!! The house, from what I’ve seen, looks very spacious…how big is it? You’re doing awesome, Ali! I can’t wait to see more pictures and hear more and more updates!! Congrats
Mysti: You are welcome anytime! Hopefully you will just be visiting and not moving back. Only because I know you want to stay there. Also, we do have a futon with a Serta mattress in the office. That will be cleaned up and set up at some point.
Dianne: I would like to have Dianne for my birthday so come visit please and thank you.
Essy: You are so sweet! It’s all of my years of watching HGTV for hours on end. I promise once we get all the rooms finished you guys will get a tour!
Tdo: Woman, I’ll be happy to. Also, we need to go for drinks soon!
Meg: Thank you! It is quite spacious- nearly as big as the house I used to own. It’s 1500 sf with only 2 beds and 1 bath- so imagine the size of them. My house was 16 sf with 3 beds, 2 1/2 baths and formal dining and breakfast rooms. All that in the city for nearly the same as we were paying in the ‘burbs. I. Love. It.
It’s funny. At first I thought those first pics were the after ones (just glancing at the pics before reading), and I thought, that doesn’t look like Ali at all. The REAL after ones, that’s def. you. It looks fabulous, Ali! You guys did such a good job! I wanna see the finished results of the hall after you glaze it, too!
PS. I finally registered to comment! LOL
